Missions
Who Do We Support In Missions?
FIRST: Monetary gifts received weekly through the offering are directed to our annual ministry budget. A part of that budget, 10%, is directed to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) which is a national missions and education agency. We are a CBF church which means we relate to Baptists all over the United States. For more information about the CBF you may go to: www.thefellowship.info and click on “Inside the CBF.”
SECONDLY: A portion of the ten percent that we mentioned above remains in Virginia to support the Virginia Baptist Missions Board (VBMB) which enables us to cooperate statewide with other Baptist churches to do missions all over Virginia. For more information about the VBMB, go to www.VBMB.org.
THIRDLY: Also in our annual ministry budget we appropriate funds to the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association (RVBA) which allows us to cooperate and do missions in the Roanoke Valley with 72 other Baptist churches.
So, on a national basis we relate to the CBF, on a statewide level VBMB and on a local level RVBA.
In addition to these wonderful and capable mission agencies, we also enter into a two year partnership with a local mission agency and international mission to help us focus on specific mission causes.
Finally, we enjoy the opportunity to give to some SPECIAL offerings on an annual basis promoted through the church.
January Souper Bowl (soup cans donated to our food pantry)
March CBF Global Missions Emphasis
September Alma Hunt Offering for VA Baptist (for special mission projects in VA) and Annie Mae Broyles – RVBA (for special projects in Roanoke Valley Missions)
November Collection for annual Food Pantry Community Christmas Party held the first weekend in December
The Mission Store provides an opportunity for anyone to purchase items needed for our own food pantry. The food pantry gives out up to 100 bags of food each week. By “purchasing” a food pantry bag in the mission store, the $10 goes towards the items that must be purchased at both the Second Harvest Food Bank and any items bought in bulk that the food bank does not have available.
Moneyless Missions
Make sure to keep in mind those unused items you may have in your home that could be helpful to others!
Recently we learned of the need for used linens: sheets, curtains, tablecloths, towels, etc. to be taken to the Powell River Valley Association in far Southwest Virginia. Our own RVBA (Roanoke Valley Baptist Association) sends a truck to Powell River every view months with these items to help families. Look for the bin marked Powell River Linens! We have had great response to the used eyeglasses as well, remember these “missions” are ongoing!
Other items currently being collected: children’s books, aluminum tabs, used cell phones, used printer cartridges, gently worn men’s clothing, and small sample toiletries.
