Rev. T Bradley Smith, Jr., Senior Pastor
Education: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Appalachian State University; Master of Divinity, Campbell University
Brad became Pastor of RHBC on November 2, 2009. He and his wife, Jamie, have two children, a son, Alex, born in 2006, and a daughter Brooklyn, born in 2009.
Brad is a native of Fayetteville, NC. After graduating with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University, where he received a full scholarship through the NC Police Corps., Brad served as a police officer with the Fayetteville Police Department for three years. He then accepted a position as a Safe Schools Coordinator at Gray’s Creek High School. During these years Brad also started his work in ministry, serving consecutively as youth minister for two churches in Fayetteville. It was within this time that Brad was called to full time ministry. He went on to complete his Master of Divinity at Campbell University where he was named a National CBF Leadership Scholar. Brad was honored as an outstanding seminary graduate and invited to apply and participate in a Minister-in-Residence program through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. His previous position as Assistant Pastor at First Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC was within the residence program, funded by the Lilly Endowment.
Paul French, Minister of Music and Worship
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Church Music, Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana; Master of Music in Church Music, Belmont University, Nashville, TN
Paul joined the ministerial staff of RHBC on January 2, 2012. Born near Toledo, Ohio, Paul was raised in a Christian home with a loving family and came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at a young age. After graduating from Toledo Christian School, he attended Indiana Wesleyan University where he met his beautiful wife, Abbi, in the horn section of the IWU Wind Ensemble. He has served churches in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Alabama, and Virginia in full-time, part-time, and intern positions.
Paul’s musical interests include hymnology, modern worship music, early American choral music, wind ensemble literature, French horn compositions, and Southern Gospel music. Abbi, who teaches the preschool choir (Treblemakers) at RHBC, has a degree in Music Education and is passionate about teaching, especially elementary music and beginning band. They enjoy spoiling their wonderful nieces and nephews, working out, reading, watching DVDs, spending time with family, going on road trips, playing with their dog, and going out on dates.
Cathy Harris, Minister to Children
Education: BS in Early Childhood Education from Radford University; teaching experience at Grandin Court Elementary and Floyd Elementary schools.
Cathy has a variety of professional experience to her credit from working in the local school system as a teacher, substitute teacher and teaching assistant. Church work is no stranger to Cathy as she has been a Sunday school teacher for 2 and 3 year olds, Kindergarten, and first and second grades. Perhaps that which enables Cathy to have valuable insight is that she is the mother of three boys: John, born in 1990, Andrew, born in 1991, and David, born in 1995.
After settling in Roanoke and attending Radford University, she met and married Nelson Harris who serves as Pastor of a local congregation.
Cathy began her ministry with RHBC for the first time as part-time Minister to Children for approximately a year in l998. Her husband accepted a call to the pastorate of a local church and Cathy followed in support of him and her family. Since that time, her boys have reached an age where she felt free to accept a call back into full time Christian ministry. She began as full time Minister to Children in March, 2006. He duties include being responsible for the development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive early childhood program for children and families.
Cathy enjoys being a mom and attending all kinds of sports activities in support of her sons. She also enjoys walking, scrapbooking and traveling.
Rev. David Miller, Minister to Youth
Education: BA degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Virginia Tech; BS in Christian Ministry, Bluefield College.
David joined RHBC as part-time staff in 2005. He and his wife Betsy are the parents of three children, Matthew, Sarah and Rachel. David and Betsy have been members of our church since 1997. David sings in the choir, is a member of the Men’s Chorus and has taught the Innkeepers Sunday school class. He has served on various teams in our church and as a Deacon.
Sarah Roberts, Director of Senior Adult Ministries
Education: BS in Early Childhood Development, East Tennessee State University
Sarah is a native of Roanoke, having attended and graduated from Patrick Henry High School. She went on to attend Radford University, transferred to East Tennessee State University and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Development. Sarah is a great advocate of family as she enjoys three brothers, a niece, four nephews, and a great niece and nephew.
Sarah’s background of employment was mainly in banking, but since joining RHBC has fallen in love with ministry. She devotes herself to caring for others, especially senior adults. It was out of her passion that she was called to become our Director of Senior Adult Ministries. Sarah enjoys life and wants to bring that same joy to others. She began her ministry on staff with RHBC in January 2006.
Sarah’s ministry responsibilities include visitation, outreach, programming activities, and arranging special programs/outings for our senior adult group J. O. Y. Fellowship (Just Older Youth). She enjoys working with the pastor and staff, participating in worship, serving on Church Council and singing in the choir. Her passion is caring for senior adults and letting them know they are treasured members of our church family.
Pam Rorer, Coordinator of Food Ministries
Education: Glenvar High School; Virginia Western Community College (Pre-school Education)
Pam began serving on the RHBC staff in January, 1999. Her duties include planning meals, ordering purchasing food, preparing the Wednesday night family dinners as well as other meals needed during the church year. She manages the kitchen and other food storage and preparation areas.
In addition these duties, Pam teaches Sunday school in our children’s department and sings in the choir. She is married to Jeff Rorer. They are the parents of two young adults, Jennifer and Colby, a foster daughter, Victoria, and became grandparents when Jennifer’s daughter was born in 2009.
Wayne Johnson, Treasurer for Church Ministries
Education: BS in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University
Wayne began duties at RHBC in 1981. He and his wife, Mary, have a daughter, a son and four grandsons. Mary is an active volunteer at a local hospital and sings in the choir.
Wayne’s duties include receiving and distributing all funds of the church, managing the church budget and payroll, preparing and presenting a monthly report to the Finance Team, preparing and filing all tax documents.
Betty Tomlinson, Financial Secretary
Education: Jefferson High School, Cornett School of Business
Betty has been serving as Financial Secretary since 1991. Her duties include keeping confidential, accurate records of individual church member’s tithes and offerings and preparing and mailing statements of each individuals giving record.
Betty is married to Rick Tomlinson, a retired assistant treasurer of Norfolk Southern; they have two daughters, a son, and seven grandchildren.
Emily Ferris and Jennifer Rorer, Co-Coordinators of Childcare Ministries
Emily Ferris has been working in the RHBC nursery since January 2011. She grew up in the church and is the daughter of Bruce Tomlinson and the granddaughter of Rick and Betty Tomlinson. She helps to coordinate and supervise the volunteers who provide care and Christian education to our children during worship services, special services, Wednesday nights, and for other special events. Emily is married to CJ and they have one son, Aiden.
Jennifer Rorer joined our staff in April, 2006 to assist Jan in the nursery. Jennifer is the daughter of Jeff and Pam Rorer and grew up in this church. She graduated from Cave Spring High School and National College with a degree in Medical Assisting and Biology. She had experience in providing childcare at another church before joining our staff. She is trained in CPR and first aid and has a deep love of children. Jennifer’s daughter was born in 2009.
Heather St.Clair, Office Manager
By day, Heather St.Clair manages the busy office of Rosalind Hills Baptist Church and by night, she manages her family of six. Members of Penn Forest Worship Center, Heather and her husband, Bill, married in May 2010 and have four children between them. Matthew, 14, is a member of the leadership team of the PFWC youth group and on the Bible quiz team. Samara, 11, is active in the Youth Praise and Worship band and the Roanoke College Children’s Choir. Isaac, 8, is on a quest to build the best Lego creation, ever, and Grace, having just turned 6, is well on her way to becoming a world renowned artist. Add their almost seven year old black lab, Rhoda, to the mix and you’ve got what they affectionately call “the house of chaos.”
Heather is an active member of her church, helping in various areas where assistance is needed from the office, to the nursery, to the youth group, and sometimes even teaching the adults on Wednesday nights. She’s an avid reader, writer, and lifelong learner. Heather is slightly addicted to her iPod Touch and she’s never met a potato that she didn’t like.
When she’s not taxiing children to and fro, helping with homework, or refereeing a Nerf gun war, you’ll find her one of two places… watching old episodes of Law & Order: SVU or blogging.
