J.C. was born in Hartsville, S.C. When he was 7 years old, his father passed away and at the age of 14 he started working - sweeping the floors at the Five and Dime store. He worked his way up to be the manager of the store while supporting his mother and younger sister, Dorothy.

He came to know the Lord as his Savior when he was 15 and began teaching Sunday School while still a teenager. After marrying Betty, they lived in SC, FL, MD, NC and TN where he opened up and stocked new stores. He was a faithful worker at his local church in each of the places where he lived.

J.C. is an exceptional teacher of the Faithful Workers class. He puts a great deal of time and research into each lesson and the whole class is very blessed because of that dedication. Said one of his students "We look forward to the Sundays that he is teaching"
